1Password's new Agentic Mode solves one of AI's biggest practical hurdles: secure logins. The integration with Anthropic's Claude allows the AI to request access to services like Stripe or Audible, but credentials are never seen by the model. Instead, 1Password injects passwords and MFA codes directly into the target site after user approval via biometrics, password, or Touch ID. Access is granted per session, scoped to a single task, and automatically expires, preventing reuse. YubiKey support is not yet available but is planned.
The system addresses concerns about granting AI persistent access—each credential request requires fresh approval. Yet browser sessions may persist after login, raising practical questions. 1Password emphasizes that Claude cannot reuse prior permissions. In demos, a manager uses Claude to scan Stripe for fraud, and an Audible user gets personalized recommendations—both without exposing credentials to Anthropic or the model. As AI agents become more capable, this approach could become a standard for secure delegation.
